Fresh calls for rethink over toilet site
Monday, 26 May 2008

church_street_toilets_1.jpgTrevor Ivory has called on the newly elected leader of North Norfolk District Council to listen to the wishes of the town and to abandon her predecessor’s plans to sell off the toilet block in Church Street, Holt.

“A survey that I carried out of every house in the town last year revealed an overwhelming desire for the toilets to be re-opened.  Failing that, people wanted to see the land given back to the town so that it can be used for another community facility, like the museum that the town has wanted for such a long time,” Mr Ivory explained.

“But the former Lib Dem leader of the Council refused to back down when I asked him to and even our MP would not join a cross-party campaign to fight for what Holt wants.  But with the Lib Dems electing a new leader, they have another chance to show that they can listen to what the community wants.”

“I have written to the new leader reminding her of the results of my survey and the huge public opposition to the plans to sell the site.  I hope that she will be more understanding of local feeling on this issue than her predecessor and others in her party have been.”
