Trevor Ivory has welcomed the news that North Norfolk District Council has finally agreed to give the Albert Street toilets a long overdue upgrade, but he has expressed concern at the suggestion that the costs will be met by the sale of the Church Street toilet site. “I welcome the decision to upgrade the Albert Street toilets – it has been a long time coming. But I am concerned that there is a catch and that the Council is still not listening to local people over the future of the Church Street site,” explained Mr Ivory.
“The District Council has made it clear that the cost of the upgrade will be recovered from the sale of the Church Street site. This is very worrying as it seems that the District Council is still planning to press ahead with a sale of the site despite the clear opposition of local people. This is giving with one hand and taking away with the other and we must now all redouble our efforts to save the Church Street site for the town.” “I have written to the District Council’s Strategic Director asking her to clarify the position and shall be discussing her response with local campaigners,” Mr Ivory added.
